MCC help ICC review DRS

MCC's Head of Cricket, John Stephenson, attended an International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Dubai to discuss the DRS (Decision Review System).

In Dubai: MCC's John Stephenson Stephenson joined representatives from the 10 Test-playing nations and three from associate and affiliate members at ICC's Dubai headquarters.

Speakers from international broadcasters (Sky Sports, Australia's Channel Nine & Ten Sports) as well as from technology suppliers HawkEye, Virtual Eye and HotSpot also attended.

The meeting discussed the umpire's Decision Review System.

MCC's World Cricket Committee were a strong advocate of the DRS at an early stage; the ICC subsequently implemented this system which has now been used in 14 Test matches.

MCC, as Guardian of both the Laws and the Spirit of Cricket, has a key role to play in the development and all aspects relating the the Laws.

Richardson: 'Valuable two days' ICC General Manager - Cricket, David Richardson said after the meeting: "It was an extremely valuable two days for technology development and we are grateful to all those who attended.

"It was clear that everyone believes technology is here to stay. The scope of the discussion covered the protocols for broadcasters and umpires as well as the playing conditions around DRS.

"There was also constructive discussions on whether DRS should be used for the ICC Cricket World Cup."

Richardson also sits on both the MCC's World Cricket Committee and Laws sub-committee alongside many of cricket's most respected names such as umpire Simon Taufel - who recently stood in his 150th ODI.
